“You can be a recent college graduate, a mother who’s looking to get back into the workforce, or someone who was recently laid off. It doesn’t matter. If you’re passionate about New York City and have a willingness and ability to serve your city for a year, then we want you.” —Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg
The NYC Civic Corps – an AmeriCorps program – unites a diverse and professional corps of volunteers for a challenging year working at New York City agencies and non-profit organizations. Members of the NYC Civic Corps build, support and manage volunteer programs that affect the critical impact areas of economic opportunity, health, education, clean energy and the environment.
The service and commitment of the NYC Civic Corps reaches residents within all five boroughs and answers President Obama’s call to service by mobilizing New York City’s greatest resource – its citizens – to address its most pressing issues.
In return for their service, Corps members receive a monthly living stipend, NYC Transit MetroCard and education award. To learn more about membership benefits, browse the links to the left.
To be eligible to join the NYC Civic Corps, you must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident with a Bachelor's degree (by August, 2010). You must also be willing to commit to full-time service (40 hours per week) for one year, beginning in late August.
