Celebration of Service Honoring Female Veterans

On June 10^th, NYC Service and the Mayor’s Office of Veteran Affairs – in partnership with JPMorgan Chase and A&E Networks – will be hosting a day-long conference for female veterans called Support Our Troops: A Celebration of Service Honoring Female Veterans.

The conference is focused on Professional Development, and includes guest speakers, networking opportunities, and a Veterans’ Resource Fair.

There will also be workshops offered specifically for female veterans about:

• Financial Empowerment
• Personal Presentation
• Resume Writing & Interview Skills
• Entrepreneurship

About This Initiative:  

In partnership with the Mayor's Office of Veterans' Affairs, NYC Service has engaged both individual volunteers and corporate citizens to donate their times, talents and skills to New Yorkers actively serving or retired from the U.S. military.

Previous Events:

Package Delivery Campaign:

Since 2009, the Support our Troops initiative has mobilized individual volunteers and private corporations to donate and to help create, care packages for Military personnel and their families.  To date, this initiative has engaged 600 volunteers and provided care packages to 8,000 troops serving overseas and their families.

Professional Development:

To show our continued support and commitment to veterans, we have expanded our program to include professional development opportunities to New York City veterans. In partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Veterans’ Affairs, NYC Service has engaged City agencies and private corporations to donate gently used professional clothing to new veterans returning to New York City.

On June 7th, 2012, in partnership with JPMorgan Chase, NYC Service hosted the first Support Our Troops: Celebration of Service Honoring Female Veterans professional development conference. The conference provided employment assistance and breakout sessions including: financial literacy, resume writing, and personal presentation. 90% of participants agreed that the conference provided relevant and useful resources.
