About This Initiative
NYC Service coordinates efforts to systematize processes and communications for spontaneous and affiliated volunteers during emergencies.
NYC Service partners with the NYC Emergency Management (NYCEM) as well as non-profits and community-based organizations to recruit New Yorkers who can assist the public and our first responders in case of an emergency.
EmergeNYC is a primary, ongoing volunteer opportunity to serve as Coastal Storm Plan (CSP) volunteers and Commodity Distribution Points (CDP) volunteers during a disaster or emergency activation.
NYC Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is another major ongoing opportunity. Over 2,000 New Yorkers are trained by NYPD, FDNY and NYC Emergency Management to help prepare New Yorkers for emergencies, as well as help first responders during incidents. Visit www.nyc.gov/cert or call 311 for more information and to apply.
