Friendly Visiting and Medical Escorting

Friendly Visitors: We have current opportunities to become a volunteer who performs "Friendly Visiting" to one of our seniors who reside between 14th and 59th Street and East River to Fifth Avenue. REQUIREMENTS OF OUR VOLUNTEERS: It is a good thing if a volunteer has worked previously or at least one time, working with a senior so they have a sensitivity and understanding of the senior they will be working with. However, we do have guidelines that are given a volunteer for working as a friendly visitor as well as a medical escort. The Volunteer Coordinator keeps in touch with the volunteer approximately every 10 days or so, so that there is always a follow-up with the volunteer working with his/her client. The volunteer must be able to commit to a period of one year for being a friendly visitor or a medical escort. The volunteer must also provide at the interview with United Neighbors' Volunteer Dept. two verifiable references. The volunteer should also be available to visit the senior at least one of two different times either on weekday or weekend.
