Garden Guides (Docents) and Explainers-The New York Botanical Garden

We are currently seeking friendly and energetic adults for the following volunteer positions: Garden Guides • Share your enthusiasm for nature and the environment by leading walking tours of select Garden areas for tour groups. Guides are trained in basic botany, horticulture, and how to communicate information to visitors. A plant background is not required but great communication skills are a must. Positions are available on weekdays and weekends. Docents must complete both Fall and Spring training sessions, offered on weekends. The Spring(7)session training will begin Sunday, March 30, 2007. Explainers • Explainers assist staff in engaging school children about the exciting world of plant life, nature, and the environment through a series of fun and interactive programs and activities. Volunteers are needed to commit to one day per week any day Tuesday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. A love for teaching children is a must. Former teaching or public speaking experience is welcome.
