Health Literacy Teachers Needed!
About this volunteer opportunity
The goal of Health Literacy is to educate and empower patients to be more involved in their healthcare decisions. Our Health Literacy Program seeks to improve the patients' ability to understand health related information by training volunteers to present standardized health literacy materials in both group and one-to-one settings. New York Methodist Hospital's Health Literacy Program provides an excellent opportunity for community health, health outreach, health promotion or pre-med students to develop a greater understanding of dynamic healthcare settings while working on their teaching and public speaking skills. Hands-On Experience Health Literacy volunteers present health-related information in clinics and family health centers.
All health literacy volunteers are required to attend 3, three hour, training sessions. These trainings ensure that volunteers are comfortable with the material and presenting it to a group.
