Volunteer opportunity description
New York Cares offers many programs serving adults and children with special needs. Our volunteers provide a little extra care and attention to the physically disabled, who often face limited recreational activities and educational opportunities. These projects provide important social interaction while teaching essential independent living skills. Education Programs - Lead educational activities such as book groups or computer skills classes for adults with physical and developmental disabilities at hospitals and independent living centers. Fun and Games - Provide companionship to adults and teens with disabilities in a fun environment with arts and crafts, musical performances, bingo, jewelry-making, cooking classes, and more. Sports and Fitness - Go bowling, run in the park, or even ride horses with disabled children or adults so they can remain physically active and healthy with regular exercise. Search our projects here: http://www.newyorkcares.org/search_projects/ Before you can volunteer on a New York Cares project, you must attend a one-hour orientation. After that, you can choose from hundreds of flexibly scheduled volunteer projects every month. Learn more about volunteering with New York Cares at http://www.newyorkcares.org, and sign up for an orientation today at http://www.newyorkcares.org/volunteer/volunteer_opportunities/getting_started_2.php.
