Volunteer opportunity description
Foreclosure
Calling all New York attorneys! Are you a lawyer who wants to help your fellow New Yorkers during this difficult economic time? Volunteer with Legal Services, NYC Service’s network of committed pro bono attorneys who strategically and effectively address New York City’s most pressing challenges.
Foreclosure filings in New York City have increased rapidly in recent years, from under 7,000 in 2004 to over 20,000 in 2009. The foreclosure crisis remains a problem in 2012, as many foreclosure cases are caught up in the courts system and need the assistance of volunteer attorneys.
Foreclosure does not just affect the family at risk of losing its home – it negatively impacts entire neighborhoods. Volunteering with NYC Service and the City Bar Justice Center is a great way to help by giving your time and expertise to represent homeowners in settlement conferences.
Volunteers must be admitted to practice law in New York State. If you have any questions, please email Ben Seibel of the City Bar Justice Center at bseibel@nycbar.org
*CLE Credit is available for providing Pro Bono representation
Requirements
