Description

Mission: To enhance the worldwide image of New York City and enrich the New York experience by connecting visitors with knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteer greeters.

Activities: Office greeters respond to e-mail, telephone, fax and mail requests from prospective visitors to New York City who wish to visit a neighborhood or group of neighborhoods with a volunteer greeter. The office greeters check their applications to make sure that the visitors will meet the requirements of our program, e.g., that they are going to be staying within the five boroughs, that they have valid hotel reservations or other accommodations, etc.

Office greeters also respond to prospective visitors by e-mail or phone to update them on the status of their requests. Benefits: Working with fun and nice people in a small, non-profit environment equipped with modern office equipment. Being involved and making a significant contribution to the organization. Opportunity to interact with travelers from around the world and enhance New York City’s image by making visitors feel welcome.

Requirements
Qualifications: Office greeters must have good overall knowledge of New York City and be interested in developing their expertise. They must have good telephone and communication skills, must be detail-oriented, and must enjoy working as part of a team. Some computer knowledge or a willingness to learn is needed. Foreign language skills are also a plus.
