Girls Write Now Mentors are Women Writers...

* Armed with at least two years of professional writing experience

* Dedicated to guiding the artistic, academic, and professional aspirations of young women

* Willing to work collectively with Girls Write Now and to recognize the importance of a supportive community in creative expression

* Prepared to make clear, frequent, and tenacious communication with Girls Write Now's leadership, volunteers, and mentees

* Able to make a serious commitment from September 2010 through June 2011 to weekly one-to-one mentoring sessions, monthly group workshops and special events, and participation on one event committee

* Ready to take a stake in one of five volunteer teams, connecting with fellow mentors and playing a vital role in sustaining the health and dynamism of Girls Write Now

Requirements

To Apply: 1. Download and fill out the Girls Write Now Mentor Application at: www.girlswritenow.org/gwn/join/mentors 2. Email the Girls Write Now Mentor Application, along with a copy of your resume and two writing samples (8 pages maximum) to enrollment@girlswritenow.org by July 1, 2010. Writing samples can be any genre; they do not need to be published creative writing. 3. Qualified applicants will be invited to an individual, in-person interview, where we will ask you to sign both your Girls Write Now Mentor Application and the Volunteer Application for Prospective Mentors Pursuant to the Protect Act. We will also take your fingerprints and ask for a one-time $18 processing fee for your criminal background check. 4. If you are accepted as a mentor, we will invite you to our fall orientation and training sessions, where you'll meet the community and get the tools you'll need to work effectively with your mentee.
