Work with Schoolchildren- Museum Docent
About this volunteer opportunity
Description
Teach all ages of school groups, community groups and tour groups about the Role of Police in the community and the History of Police. Includes giving orientations to the museum, conducting tours, conducting classes with hands-on activities, setting up and cleaning up after classes.
Requirements
This is a great position for a retired teacher or someone trying to gain experience towards teaching in a formal or informal setting. Docents should have prior experience working with children as well as an enthusiasm and/or knowledge of history. Docents have to be comfortable and have experience Public Speaking, have a positive view of law enforcement and NYPD; have comfort working with diverse audiences of all ages. There is a lot of information to be learned. Docents must strategically teach to multiple audiences. Docents will be walking around the museum, as well as teach in a room so must have the ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
