Volunteer opportunity description
Chhaya CDC seeks volunteers to promote its exciting new program called Energy Efficiency. Through linking eligible homeowners and tenants to free or low-cost home energy assessments and improvements, Chhaya will help New Yorkers save money on their utility bills. Energy assessments will identify health and safety issues, and retrofit work makes homes more comfortable. Retrofitting buildings to improve their energy efficiency is a critical step in transforming New York into an environmentally sustainable city.
We need your help to spread the word!
Volunteers will assist with outreach, tabling and community education about the Block by Block program in Southeast Queens. An orientation and ongoing training will be provided.
Responsibilities:
· Engage in Chhaya’s outreach efforts through one-on-one engagement, phone calls, door-knocking, tabling and/or distributing flyers;
· Maintain a working knowledge of the Block by Block program;
· Assist in developing connections with neighborhood partners, including cultural organizations and places of worship.
Requirements
Language skills in English and a South Asian language (Bangla, Punjabi or Hindi) a plus Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Willingness to engage in door-knocking and street outreach; Interest or experience in working with immigrant communities, social justice and environmental issues.
