Volunteer opportunity description

This winter season, NYC Service is assisting community-based organizations in mobilizing volunteers to help seniors avoid accidents and ticketing by organizing a comprehensive, last resort snow removal strategy.

The City is encouraging New Yorkers to give their blank this winter by helping neighbors in need - especially seniors and those living with disabilities.

Our office will be acting as a referral program, connecting interested volunteers with partnering organizations.

If you are interested in being a Snow Removal partner organization you should be able to:

Design program (1:1 matching vs. team shoveling, season-long matching vs. storm-by-storm deployment, etc.)

Manage day-to-day operations of program

Ensure that seniors are being served throughout season

For partners: We are asking your organization to implement a strategy best fit for your organization to match volunteers to seniors that we have already identified. Please make us aware if you would like to join us in this service. Contact nycservice@cityhall.nyc.gov or call 212 341-2000 if you are interested.

If you are interested in volunteering to remove snow:

Please contact NYC Service at nycservice@cityhall.nyc.gov or call 212-341-2000 and provide your contact information and neighborhood. You will then be referred to one of our partner organizations.

Specific volunteer descriptions, such as where to shovel and if you need equipment, will be provided by these community-based organizations.

Once you share your location with a partner organization, they in turn will match you with a senior and provide you with additional information.

If you are interested in a volunteer helping to remove snow from your property:
We already have a designated list of clients to serve. This is a volunteer opportunity only. If you would like to receive this last resort service, you may leave your contact information with NYC Service who will then try to match you with an organization.

Disclaimer: We are recruiting volunteers to serve citizens who are unable to comply with the law that requires them to clear their sidewalks after a snow storm. The City does not clear sidewalks in front of private homes, and homeowners are ticketed if they do not comply with the legal parameters.
