Volunteer opportunity description
The New York-New Jersey Harbor Coalition needs your help! On Saturday, July 14, 2012, our Coalition partner - the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance (MWA) - will host the 5th annual City of Water Day. Over 25,000 attendees will gather to take part in this free, public festival on New York City’s Governor’s Island and in various sites around the NY-NJ harbor. This promises to be a lively and inspiring event that brings people together to celebrate exciting aspects of our harbor and waterfront, with on-water recreation, great food and fun children’s events, educational displays and discussions about the environmental and commercial benefits of our harbor, and much more.
We need volunteers to petition and recruit supporters for the New York-New Jersey Harbor Act at high-traffic locations in order to make the City of Water Day a success! Our grassroots efforts are essential to build bi-partisan congressional support for this critical legislation, which is based on other successful citizen-led efforts across the country. Together with your help, the New York-New Jersey Harbor Act will break down procedural barriers, create comprehensive and efficient oversight, and provide the critical federal investment needed to match local resources and restore our harbor to truly meet the economic, recreational and environmental needs of the region.
To thank you for your time, we are happy to provide you with a free lunch and T-shirt!
