Volunteer opportunity description

Materials for the Arts provides thousands of NYC’s arts and cultural organizations, public schools, and community arts programs with the supplies they need to run and expand their programs. We gather unneeded materials from companies and individuals and makes them available, for free, to the artists and educators that do. In the process, hundreds of tons are kept out of landfills every year, which helps sustain our environment, promotes reuse, and reduces waste.

Our materials are housed in a 35,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Long Island City. Volunteers prepare the warehouse for twice-weekly “shopping days” for our registered recipients by helping us sort and stock donations. Volunteer shifts are available in 2-, 3-, and 4-hour increments and can be recurring or one-time events. We work with individuals, volunteer groups, and corporate programs.  This is a great opportunity to show New York that you care about the arts and the environment!

Requirements

Volunteers must be 16 years or older. We can accommodate volunteers on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 10:30 AM and 4 PM. If you are interested in helping NYC's arts and school communities, please email a brief statement of interest, the times you are available, and a copy of your resume to volunteer@mfta.nyc.gov. We look forward to hearing from you and expanding our team.
