Volunteer opportunity description
Help green one of New York's biggest events of the year! Join us in what is now our 6th year of coordinating recycling at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. We’re dedicated to educating festival goers on the importance of environmental stewardship. We believe everyone can make a difference and we rely on dedicated volunteers who are interested in inspiring others.
We welcome you to join us this September 7th at the 72nd St Transverse. We'll provide snacks, water, t-shirts and training, you just bring your smiling self!
6:00am-9:00am Early Bird
Help us set up recycling bins, place any signs, and set up the recycling education table. Also help check in volunteers for the next shifts.
7:00am-11:00am Movers and Shakers
Assist Early Birds with any remaining set up tasks. Come race time, you are our men/women out on the field, wearing recycling banners, carring signs, and calling out for people to give you their empty bottles. Also monitoring the water stations along the route, and encouraging racers to dispose of cups in a recycling bin and not in a tree!
8:00am-12:00pm Recycling Army
Our heavy-duty recycling army right in the thick of the excitement and entertainment. Encourage recycling and make sure that people think before they throw in the greater expo area. If you would like to be paired with 1 friend for this, please email us ahead of time. Groups of 3 or larger can't all be placed together unfortunately.
12:00pm-4:00pm Cleanup Captains
Post-race cleanup happens fast and can sometimes get a little chaotic. We need some responsible and active volunteers who can direct the cleanup crew to use the proper recycling receptacles, keeping recycling separate from garbage. Captains will also answer questions about where everything goes, what can be recycled, and contact the GrowNYC staff directly for assistance.
We provide training before your shift, along with t-shirt, water, and snacks.
