Description
The Staten Island Mental Health Society's School Reading Volunteer Program puts trained volunteers into the borough's public elementary schools, during school hours, to tutor young children who need extra help learning to read or improving their reading skills. New volunteers are trained by a professional reading teacher during 2 two- hour sessions. Training takes place in October and February. This is
Requirements
Volunteers should be high school graduates who have a lot of patience. Men and women are welcome, as are parents, seniors, and college students. Volunteers should be able to devote at least 4 hours a week to tutoring.
