Volunteer opportunity description
The Children’s Plan was developed in response to the Children’s Mental Health Act of 2006. The goal of the Children’s Plan is to achieve social and emotional well-being for all children across community and agency boundaries. It serves as a blueprint for how service providers, government agencies, youth and families can work together in support of this goal. Upon release of the Children’s Plan, New York City stakeholders came together to determine how to implement the Plan at the local level.
As a result, the Interagency Coordinating Council on Youth Services launched the Transition Age Youth (TAY) Workgroup on Accessing Information. The Workgroup was formed to address the need and improve access to information for transition age youth. Its mission is to promote the well being of youth and families by utilizing the City of New York’s multitude of resources developed specifically for youth.
The TAY Workgroup’s goal is to identify and map existing information and referral resources for transition age youth in New York City and determine how to improve their coordination and accessibility to youth, families, service providers and government agencies.
The TAY Workgroup will employ three strategies for improving access to information for TAY and families. They are the (1) creation of a Consortium of Transition Age Youth Information and Referral Providers, (2) enhancement Transition Age Youth Resources in 311 and (3) design and development of a webpage of Information and Referral Services for Transition Age Youth.
Volunteers for the TAY Workgroup will assist in the design and development of the webpage of information and referral services for Transition Aged Youth. They will be asked to attend three to four focus group sessions beginning in September and ending in November.
