Organization Details

Description & History

New York City FIRST is a regional office of FIRST, the nonprofit organization created by inventor Dean Kamen.

New York City FIRST is a volunteer-driven organization. Each year more than 2,000 wonderfully generous people give of their time, energy, and creativity to bring the FIRST experience to kids across the City.

Volunteers help in many ways -- mentoring teams of young, aspiring technologists, helping run FIRST community tournaments and celebration, and planning and developing FIRST programs across the City.

In 2009, 48 New York City high schools participated in the FIRST Robotics Competition, 38 high schools participated in the FIRST Tech Challenge, and more than 200 middle-school teams participated in FIRST LEGO League.
