Organization Details

Description & History

Since 1994, CEC has grown into the largest not-for-profit energy-conservation organization in New York State, and CEC holds the largest state-issued contract for weatherization assistance services.

Cool Roofs consist of a special coating that is highly reflective, typically white, and releases heat quickly.

CEC is participating in the NYC Cool Roofs program because it is a simple and easy way to reduce the local global warming impact, lower the summertime temperature of the entire city by 1 degree, save NYC tenants $100 million, lessen the impact of the Heat Island Effect (because of all the hot dark surfaces in the city like asphalt roads and roofs, New York City is 5-7 degrees hotter than the surrounding rural areas) and the severity of heat-related illnesses among children and the elderly If you are a building owner interested in the program, please visit us at www.cecenter.org/nyccoolroofs
