Organization Details
Action to Cure Kidney Cancer was founded in 2003 in NYC but is national in scope. Its main thrust is to advance the research in kidney cancer through fundraising by the organisation itself and through lobbying efforts to increase the federal budget for kidney cancer research. ACKC maintains a website reporting on the latest therapies for metastatic disease, distributes literature, gives advice to patients and caregivers, and runs a support group in NYC. In the past year, we have funded two researchers, on at the National Institues of Health and the second at Stanford University, who are doing basic research to develop cytotoxic agents that will combat kidney cancer. Our lobbying efforts last year led to the imminent award of a $900,000 grant by the Department of Defense to two researchers who will investigate kidney cancer biomarkers. Our support group meets bi-monthly at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. It is run by a psychologist. We attend cancer conferences and report on the latest findings from clinical trials.
