Description & History

Building upon over a decade of leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS we educate, empower, advocate for and provide support services to women and their families.

Life Force's programmatic model emphasizes peer-led initiatives and works to identify and mobilize the unique resources of the communities it serves.

Life Force has recently received an award from Mayor Bloomberg recognizing its contributions to HIV/AIDS education in Brooklyn communities for women of color.

Life Force is a community based not-for-profit organization active in HIV/AIDS prevention and education, established by and for women in 1989.

From 1989 through 1991, Life Force operated as a demonstration project of The Training Center for Health Professionals of Cicatelli Associates.

Life Force: Women Fighting AIDS, Inc., independently incorporated as a not-for-profit community based organization and was awarded its IRS 501(c)(3) status in 1991.

Nineteen courageous women became the first Life Force peer educators as they joined together to battle the raging AIDS epidemic within their communities.

Each woman was personally affected by HIV or infected with the virus and recognized the dire need for HIV/AIDS prevention education.

They reached out to those in greatest need of information--under served communities of low-income women of color.
