The Alzheimer's Association, NYC Chapter seeks to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to respond with compassion, care, and competence to the needs of those affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Staff and volunteers achieve this by providing a variety of programs, services, and information to persons with the disease,their families and caregivers.
Programs and services include:
* A 24 Hour Helpline - provides access to information, advice and support to those affected directly or indirectly by Alzheimer's disease.
* Family Support Groups throughout New York City - to share experiences and exchange information.
* Free Educational Programs and a Speakers Bureau - relevant topics are discussed at the Alzheimer's Association office and at various agencies throughout the 5 boroughs (senior centers, health fairs, libraries, corporations, places of worship, schools, etc.) Topics include: understanding dementia, financial planning, care strategies, research programs, and legislative and public issues.
* MedicAlert+Alzheimer's Association Safe Return program - a nationwide identification, support and enrollment program working at the community level - provides assistance to people with Alzheimer's disease who become lost locally or far from home.
The Alzheimer's Association is a national organization with 80 chapters nationwide.
The New York City Chapter, as a founding chapter of the National Alzheimer's Association, opened its doors to people with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers in 1978 and was incorporated in 1980.
We are located in the heart of midtown and we serve 5 boroughs - Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.
