The program is divided into the following units: General Legal Services - This unit provides direct representation and case consultation in the area of government entitlements, health and medical benefits, wills, consumer protection, employment and discrimination matters.

Family Law - This unit provides direct representation and case consultation in all matters related to family law including but not limited to, obtaining orders of protection, securing custody, visitation and support orders, and the procurement of uncontested and contested divorces.

Special Litigation - This unit serves as advocates in class and other impact litigation to improve the administration of public welfare and benefits programs.

LegalHealth - provides a wide range of legal services to New Yorkers with chronic and serious illness including cancer, asthma, and lupus through partnerships with the hospitals and community organizations serving this vulnerable population.

Immigrant Protection Unit - This unit offers legal assistance to immigrants on permanent residency applications, work authorizations, disability waivers, visas, adjustments of status, anti-immigrant discrimination, and access to available benefits.

NYLAG attorneys also conduct trainings for social workers, advocates, and immigrants on all areas of immigration law, including the effect of status on access to public benefits Where appropriate, the New York Legal Assistance Group engages in class and other impact litigation to improve the administration of public welfare and benefits programs.
