Description & History

For close to 200 years the Sisters of Charity have lived out a vision of serving those in need through hospitals, schools, parishes and through social work activities. The Sisters began their work in New York by caring for orphans at the Foundling Hospital in lower Manhattan. The challenge issued to the founders who had limited resources in a time of tremendous need was "Abandon No One".

Through the changing circumstances of our times, we continue to sponsor many services to people who live in the NYC area.

Through an adult literacy programs like Project LIGHT, we extend a welcome to the many people in our area who are prevented from reaching their full potential through lack of language skills.

We welcome others to join with us to meet today's needs. Colleagues, Associates and Charity Volunteers are a valued part of all our works.
