Description & History

Baby Basics NYC is a non-profit 100% volunteer organization dedicated to helping low income working families with children age 0-3. By consistently providing disposable diapers and community connection two times monthly (Saturdays) to program families, Baby Basics NYC is helping ensure babies who are born into poverty and may be at risk have the chance to thrive. Parent meetings involve discussion about a topic related to early childhood development and parenting and diapers, which are often too expensive for working families who are struggling to make ends meet, are distributed. While parents are meeting, children enjoy a beautiful nursery school area with developmental play experiences led by dedicated volunteers. Early literacy and nutrition are two prevailing program themes.

Baby Basics NYC is an independent chapter of Baby Basics Inc. which began in NJ in 1995. Baby Basics NYC began in 2006 serving low-income working families primarily of the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Program meetings take place two Saturdays monthly at the JCC (Jewish Community Center) of Manhattan on Amsterdam Avenue and W76th ST. Please visit www.babybasicsnyc.org for all information.
