Description & History

Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, Inc., a separately-incorporated, 501(c)(3) organization located on the campus of Lehman College in the Bronx, was established in 1980 to provide the underserved residents of the borough and surrounding communities with access to affordable, culturally-diverse, performing arts programs that entertain, educate and inspire.

The Performing Arts Center?s 2,310-seat Concert Hall showcases the work of international, national and local performing artists.

The Center?s music, dance and theatre performances reflect the rich cultural traditions of both long-time and newly-arrived residents.

The Center draws major celebrities to perform in the Bronx for the first time, provides emerging artists with access to new audiences and the opportunity to receive New York City press coverage, engages young families and children in the arts, and reaches out to isolated and at-risk audience members.

In 2007-08, 35 performances were presented, ranging from Mexican folk dance to Russian classical ballet and from orchestral music to African drumming.

Among the artists presented were: Danny Rivera, Ballet Folkl
