Organization Details
The Alliance is: A resource. We serve constituencies in New York City, New York State and across the US, including * Children, parents and teachers * The general public and visitors to New York * New York's cultural community * Government and civic leaders and researchers * Artists, curators and historians.
An advocate. We help government and civic leaders understand the importance of cultural organizations to our city. We make the case for more support for culture from all levels of government.
An information resource. The Alliance published the first guide to New York museums in 1978. We continue this work through NYC ARTS and NYCkidsARTS, in print and online and our new online cultural guide for the state, NYStateARTS.org. Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and tourists use our guides to cultural programs every year. New York City public school teachers use NYCkidsARTS, which is also used by thousands of parents to help young people discover the joy and value of the arts.
A research center. The Alliance was the first to study the arts as an industry. We continue this work, measuring the importance of culture to the economy and to education. Our reports inform the press and public officials and support the development of the entire cultural community.
A leader in developing electronic applications. The all-new NYC-ARTS.org and NYCkidsARTS.org Web sites are the most comprehensive resources of their kind. Both are centralized locations to access information about culture in New York and gateways to other cultural resources.
