Geriatric Career Development (GCD) is a full time intensive three year out of school time program that includes such services and activities as: 1) On-Site academic support and Sylvan's PSAT Tutoring in small groups based on ability; 2) College counseling partnerships collaboration with college prep counseling; 3) Education about geriatric issues and health careers though lectures, shadowing and internships placements in a long term care facility; 4) Preparation for health careers through certifications classes at local community colleges; 5) Intergenerational activities and elder mentors; 6) Life skill workshops to enhance student?s interpersonal skills, explore values and beliefs, and obtain practical information about finances, workplace expectations and interview skills. 7) Wellness Program with focus on healthy lifestyles and fitness; 8) Student stipends during vacation weeks and summer SYEP program and 9) Workshops for families to help them understand college and career options for their teens and adolescent developmental issues.
