Description & History

The Hudson Riverkeeper, Inc. is a member-supported not-for-profit environmental organization whose mission is to protect the ecological, commercial and recreational integrity of the Hudson River and its tributaries, and to safeguard the upstate watersheds that supply drinking water to more than nine million New York City and Hudson Valley residents. Through litigation and a community watchdog program, we rectify pollution issues along the Hudson and in NYC's watersheds by first informing polluters of their wrongful actions and bringing them to the courts if they do not remedy the situation independently. We aim to educate communities and potential polluters on how to be better stewards of their River and watersheds through our outreach efforts, providing information on the issues being faced, what Riverkeeper is doing to counteract them, and what can be done on the individual level to have an effect.
