Description & History
Founded in 1899, the Brooklyn Children's Museum was the world's first museum designed expressly for children.
It was created explicitly to introduce children to the world around them through hands-on programs, active exploration of exhibits, specimens from the natural world, and cultural artifacts from all six continents. The museum reopened in September 2008 after completing a $49 million facility expansion and renovation that doubles its size and capacity. The "new" Brooklyn Children's Museum includes all new exhibitions, expanded programs and visitor amenities, and is slated to be the first LEED certified "green" museum in New York City.
