Description & History

The Old Stone House is a cultural center located at the center of Washington Park/JJ Byrne Playground in Park Slope, Brooklyn, between 4th and 5th Avenues.

The house, a reconstruction of the Vechte farmhouse built in 1699, was the site of a crucial battle at the start of the American Revolution in August, 1776.

Later used as the clubhouse for the Brooklyn Baseball Club, the team that became the Dodgers, the site has long been a gathering place for community events and recreation.

In addition to educational programs focused on the rich history of the House found in the OSH gallery, OSH presents a wide variety of literary, music, film and theater programs.

We work with the Friends of Washington Park to support the gardens and recreation spaces surrounding the house and are seeking volunteers interested in gardening and community based programming.
