Description & History
The institute for human identity - ihi - was founded in 1973 and led the fight within the American Psychiatric Association to have homosexuality deleted from its listing of psychiatric disorders.
Since then it has provided professional psychotherapy to thousands of persons - gay and non-gay - and functioned as a training center for graduate and postgraduate students in the mental health fields.
The institute for human identity - ihi - also runs the Family Q program - consisting of free workshops and counseling, under a grant from the NYS Department of Health, for gay and lesbian parents and potential parents to alert them to and help them deal with the emotional issues involved in raising a "Q" family.
