Description & History

Millennium HS was founded in 2002 with a $500,000 grant from New Visions for Public Schools.

Lower Manhattan's Community Board 1 raised $14 million to build the school, which is located on the 11th,12th and 13th floors of 75 Broad Street.

MHS enrolls approximately 550 students. Teachers are available every day after school for extra help.

An active Parents Association initiates programs and raises funds to support them.

MHS volunteer mentors are screened by the MHS External Affairs Committee(extaffairs@millenniumhs.org) and receive a one-hour training prior to starting. Each mentor is paired with a faculty member who serves as a coordinator and advisor, and is matched with a student or group of students.

Sample mentoring opportunities are: After-School Tutoring and Clubs, Oct.2009-May2010 1-2 times a week 3:00-5:30pm in all subject areas, dance, art, music, chess, anime, sports and Model UN.
