The Center was formally opened on September 19, 1970.
Roy Wilkins, Executive Director of the N.A.A.C.P. was the honored guest for the dedication. In his remarks, he cited the dire need to prepare Black children ?to gain the most from their future educational experiences? as the reason for the National N.A.A.C.P.'s consent for the undertaking. He then christened the building with a bottle of milk. The Jamaica N.A.A.C.P. Day Care Center, Inc. has had a successful contractual relationship with Agency for Children Services for more than 39 years.
