Since 2002, CCFS has been dedicated to the mission of helping young children and their families break the cycle of illiteracy and poverty. Teacher’s Assistant Position Description This position serves as a Teacher's Assistant for an Early Head Start/Universal Pre-Kindergarten classroom. The Teacher’s Assistant will work collaboratively with the Teacher to ensure the successful operation of a classroom of children. The Teacher’s Assistant also works with a team of other classroom Assistant Teachers and family members to implement the Opening The World of Learning Curriculum to achieve outcomes for children of all abilities. The Teacher’s Assistant will ultimately be evaluated on a combination of skills, dispositions and behaviors, some of which are related to the specific service area of this position and others that represent general expectations of all CCFS employees. The Teacher’s Assistant will demonstrate competency to perform functions that include: Child Growth & Development: Uses knowledge of the principles of child growth and development to work with children and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. • Implements a child-centered curriculum and learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation to promote development in all domains for children of all abilities. • Addresses challenging behaviors by observing to determine possible causes of the behavior, implementing preventive measures, teaching the child new social and communication skills and partnering with families to support the child at home. • Uses observations of children and anecdotal notes to document children’s progress and individualize curriculum. • Creates partnerships with families to establish positive interaction patterns in program, school, and home. • Support Teacher to assess and meet the strengths and needs of children • Enhance the relationship of parents and their children by encouraging parent participation • Coordinate the planning and use of community resources to enrich the learning environment • Complete required documentation and meet program standards regarding parent involvement • Oversee and assist with classroom cleanup and follow universal precautions daily • Assist staff in safely exiting children from Center during fire drills and hazardous situations • Maintain program standards regarding confidentiality and professional boundaries Minimum Qualification 1. Must be at least 17 years of age- High School Seniors.
