The Civic Corps Package

I’ve been greatly fortunate to have the dual experience of serving two wonderful organizations, GrowNYC and the Central Park Conservancy. For GrowNYC I helped get Grow to Learn: the Citywide School Gardens Initiative off the ground, by helping administer a mini-grant application process that gave money to schools looking to grow school gardens. This was a nice juxtaposition to working at the Central Park Conservancy Volunteer Department, which manages over 500 active volunteers.

My Civic Corps experience wasn’t just confined to these two organizations; I also volunteered at many events, such as mural painting at a school in East Harlem through New York Cares, greeting guests at the Martin Luther King Day of Service, and planting trees through MillionTreesNYC. The NYC Civic Corps also enabled my professional goals by providing seminars at diverse locations around New York City with engaging speakers and workshops. One of the best parts was meeting 150 active, engaged Civic Corps members who come to this program with accomplished backgrounds. Ultimately, I emerged from the Civic Corps with a toolbox that has enriched my personal and professional life.
