Continuing the Journey

Less than one year ago, I stumbled across an e-mail which described "service" and how I might get involved. I carefully reviewed the contents and said to myself...This is a way to get back and give back.

You see, after many years of physical illness and being at home, I continued to provide assistance to those in my community, and as I got stronger, I was desperate to get back into the world of work. This proved to be a great challenge. I could not get a break.but, NYC Service said yes!!. I recall the moment I received my answer, I was filled with joy and my energy level soared. New York City Civic Corps has allowed me to continue a journey that began many years ago. Although interrupted by some illness and just "life" I am continuing on a path that brings brightness not only to me, but to those I serve. It has caused my children and grandchildren to "Shout" Yeah.. you can do it, and I have.

So thank you, thank you, to Mayor Bloomberg for having the courage to initiate such a challenging venture and to all those who come out and make it happen every day, thanks to the Service Fellows who are always present with "sleeves rolled up" ready to serve, and to the Chief Service Officer who has the greatest smile each and everyday she serves.

BRAVO TO US ALL. Brenda Wright-Lucas
