About VISTA Summer Associates Program

The COVID-19 pandemic has created an unprecedented crisis in New York City, which is the epicenter of a public health emergency that has disproportionately impacted low-income families and individuals. The VISTA Summer Associates Program will help city agencies and nonprofits continue to provide services for low-income and vulnerable New Yorkers over the summer.

NYC Service’s VISTA Summer Associates Program will address three key needs prevalent in New York City in response to COVID-19:

1. Food Access

VISTA Summer Associates will provide food to New Yorkers who are food insecure and/or homebound by assisting with food inventory inspections and packaging, the loading and unloading of food delivery vehicles, and the (contactless) delivery of food to residences, or by supporting the recruitment and placement of volunteers with NYC-based emergency food providers.

2. Education

VISTA Summer Associates will assist in the creation of professional development trainings and resources for NYC Department of Education school administrators, staff, and families to prepare for the 2020-21 school year, as well as support a caseload of graduating high school seniors with key matriculation tasks to ensure they successfully enroll at CUNY campuses in the fall.

3. Senior Services

VISTA Summer Associates will support in the implementation and monitoring of a coordinated approach to senior wellness, developing a range of wellness materials that support social engagement and connection to community.
