Volunteer opportunity description

Minds Matter NYC is a three-year, college-access program that supports high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds reach their academic potential through mentoring, tutoring, and extracurricular experiences. Students graduate ready to thrive in college, career and beyond.

Writing & Critical Thinking Advisors help students develop their writing voice, make an argument using supporting evidence and learn to be a critical reader. You’ll lead small groups of students each week. With your help, Minds Matter students develop stronger personal narratives for college applications and enter freshman year as strong writers!

How it works:

Writing takes place for 1.5-2 hours on Saturdays afternoons. Advisers work with their students in small groups and meet approximately 20 Saturdays during the academic year. Program dates are set in advance and do not fall on major holidays or school breaks. Fall 2021 Saturday Sessions will take place virtually and resume to in-person programming in January 2022.
