Volunteer opportunity description

City Harvest supports a network of over 400 agencies across the five boroughs. Many of our community food programs have been forced to shut down due to the COVID-19 crisis, often because of a lack of volunteers or staff. At the same time, our community food programs that are operating have reported an increased need for food and resources as more New Yorkers are seeking out additional food for themselves and their families.

City Harvest is working to provide our agencies with more volunteer resources so that we can continue to feed our fellow New Yorkers during this time.

Volunteers at Agency Network Support shifts will assist with pantry organization, accepting deliveries, pre-bagging food items, distribution, line management, translation and more. Tasks will vary based on specific agency needs. Agency Network Support shifts currently take place at 3 Food Programs on the North Shore of Staten Island on weekdays and Saturdays.

Volunteers should be prepared to do some heavy lifting between 15–30 pounds. Volunteers should be comfortable with standing for long periods of time and with outside activity.

As of June 2020, all volunteers must be between the ages of 18–65 to participate.

All Volunteers must complete an online orientation, agree to City Harvest’s policies, and register for shifts on the Volunteer Portal before participating.
