Volunteer opportunity description

Calling all residents of the Big Apple to help a fellow New Yorker get off the cold streets!

On Monday, January 22nd, the NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) will conduct its annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE), a citywide community volunteer effort to canvass parks, subways, and other public areas in order to determine the quantity of people who are without a home.

YOU can help us collect vital information that is used by Outreach teams to help homeless people and connect them to the appropriate services they need!

The information gathered by volunteers during HOPE 2018 is critical to our ongoing efforts, but we NEED your help to make it possible.

We strive to recruit as many volunteers as we possibly can, age 18 and older, to just give up merely ONE night of their time to make an impact on someone less fortunate living on the streets.

Volunteers are needed throughout the city, so there are multiple volunteer sites in all five boroughs and all volunteers will be trained prior to participation.

Everyone will start and end the night at the volunteer site they choose.

Please encourage friends, family and colleagues who may be interested in volunteering.

Sign up for HOPE 2018 today to change someone's life on January 22nd!

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be prepared to conduct the survey from 10pm-4am in your selected area on January 22nd,2018

  • Participants must be willing to travel
  • Maintain a positive attitude and ready to make an impact!
