Organization Profile

Thrive Collective creates hope and opportunity through arts and mentoring in public schools. Our programs – Murals, Music, Media, and Mentors – connect artists and youth workers with local schools as teaching artists, art directors, and mentors. Project based learning and accredited curriculum integrate life and art skills in four kinds of experiences: in-school electives, after school clubs, seasonal intensives, and weekend warriors.

In 2016, Thrive Collective’s core programs worked with 2,800 students in 23 schools, producing fifteen school murals totaling 7,000 square feet, three music recitals, forty student films, three film festivals, a South Bronx Arts festival, and a citywide Art Exhibit at the United Federation of Teachers; and 100% of graduating seniors from our School Mentors programs were accepted into college.

School Mentors nurture trusting, intergenerational relationships between students and mentors that cultivate life and vocational skills necessary to thrive. We create a safe space for a mentoring experience throughout an academic year that combines regular meals, topical conversations, recreation and outings, and one-on-one communication. Through small group mentoring during dinner two or three times a month, School Mentors teaches responsible citizenship while cultivating character and life skills, educational and career options, and professional relationships and networks.

Our Brotherhood Mentoring program at Harlem Village Academies High School is a collaboration with Young Life Harlem and meets the first, third, and occasional fifth Tuesday of every month from November - June from 5:00p - 6:30p at Harlem Village Academies High School (35 West 124th Street, between 5th Avenue and Malcolm X Blvd), except when school holidays may require us to meet offsite.
