Youth Action Programs and Homes Inc/Youth Action Youth Build-East Harlem – Development Project Leader VISTA

Youth Action Programs & Homes, Inc. (aka Youth Action YouthBuild) is dedicated to building a community of young people and adults committed to taking responsibility for their own lives and for improving the larger community. We seek to break the cycle of poverty by unleashing the intelligence and positive energy of low-income out-of-school young adults to rebuild their communities and their lives. In our Youth Action YouthBuild East Harlem program, low-income young people ages 16 to 24 enroll full-time for about a year and gain job skills and work experience renovating affordable housing for homeless and low-income individuals and families. YouthBuild students also work  toward completing their  own high school education,  providing community service and developing lifelong leadership skills. 

Member Duties : This AmeriCorps VISTA position, will work with a dynamic team to secure grants and donations, develop partnerships, and create resources to enhance the YouthBuild program’s ability to serve students.  The VISTA  will work with the organizations management team to set fundraising targets and identify priority-funding areas.  He/She will be responsible for researching grant opportunities, managing grant commitments  and developing clear and compelling narratives for new  grant proposals; gather and prepare supporting materials and attachments in accord with grant guidelines. The VISTA will develop partner relationships and  create marketing materials that promote and tell the story of the organization and its work. The VISTA will also engage in special initiatives such as the development of the Youth Action Circle of Friends effort and our Job UP internship program which provide students work experience and access to job opportunities. This is a dynamic role that provides opportunity for learning, continued growth and the ability to make a strong social contribution.


• Monthly Stipend. A living allowance adjusted for NYC

• Choice of Education Award  or End of Service Stipend

Required Skills:
Strong written and oral communication skills
Well organized with the ability to multi-task and meet demanding deadlines
Self-starter, able to lead projects independently
Experience in grant writing/development, marketing, fundraising and youth development, and/or program development
We welcome seasoned professionals looking to engage a worthy cause  and new professionals who are quick learners and entrepreneurial  looking to gain great organizational experience
