Volunteer opportunity description

The New York Public Library is teaming up with The My Brother's Keeper Alliance (MBKA) to bring access and opportunity to high-school aged youth.

We are looking for management-level and executive- level people from NYC-based companies to serve as volunteer mentors.

Library Mentors will have meetings with students at either Mott Haven Library or 96th Street Library once a month starting in November.

The goal is to provide select students with an opportunity to be mentored by and exposed to role-models in safe-spaces (library branches) and receive guidance around college access, career planning, soft-skills, and more.

·      Library Mentors must hold a current management or executive level position at a for-profit company.

·      Must complete an application and interview.

·      Must submit to a background check.

·      Must be able to make the time commitment from 5:30 – 7:00 PM, once a month from November to May. Required training is provided.

·      As an Equal Opportunity Employer, the Library is committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace; prospective mentors with diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
