Volunteer opportunity description

ECOLOGICAL CITY ART WORKSHOPS run March 2 - May 8, every Wednesday 6-9pm and Saturday 12-4pm, creating spectacular giant puppets, costumes, and performances exploring local sustainability sites and climate solution initiatives. Groups and organizations are invited to develop group arts projects. Workshops are free of cost and take place at Two Bridges Neighborhood Council (community room), 82 Rutgers Slip, (F Train to East Broadway - walk two blocks east) 

Ecological City is a cultural and climate action project engaging the Lower East Side community through creative strategies co-creating a theatrical pageant and environmental actions to develop and bring together climate resiliency and ecological sustainability plans, policies, and solutions within the gardens, neighborhood, and waterfront of the Lower East Side of New York City, and its contribution to city and global climate challenges.

All participants in the workshops are encouraged to sign up for roles in the ECOLOGICAL CITY pageant on Saturday, May 11, 2019 (rain date Sunday, May 12). Marshals/ Key Performers needed: 9am-6pm


  • Parade Marshal - Direct a section of procession (manage puppet, costume, crowd, food/drink sections)
  • Costume Performer - Wear a spectacular costume
  • Puppet Volunteer - Carry a puppet
  • Program Marshal - Hand out programs, mailing list sign up
