Volunteer opportunity description

The Actors Theatre Workshop (ATW), a non-profit theater and community center, needs volunteer Program Members to join its Fall/Holiday season to work on its many programs including its year-end Theater-Arts Education program for homeless children living in NYC temporary housing facilities. The children’s program culminates in two Creative Classes and Holiday Celebrations on Tuesday, Dec. 10 and Wednesday, Dec. 11 where involved program members mentor the children.

For decades, ATW has remained committed to running its award-winning programs while arts funding has dwindled by relying on people power. In our impressive 29th year, we are looking for professional, mature adults to share their skills and their compassion, and help these precious children reconnect to the essence of the holiday season - having a hot, nutritious family-style meal with caring adults and brand new gifts.

Be a part of ATW’s non-profit programs:

Apply to be a part of our volunteer team by filling out this short application.
Learn more about ATW’s programs, including its year-end Children’s program, at an Information and Interview Session on Saturday 11/23 from 2-4:30PM, Monday 11/25 from 6-8:30PM and Monday 12/2 from 6-8:30PM.
Attend a 3-part training with our Artistic Director Thurman E. Scott on Tuesday, Oct 15th, Thursday, Oct 17th and Monday, Oct 21st from 6:00-9:30pm OR Monday, Nov 25th, Thursday, Nov 28th and Monday, Dec 2nd from 6:00-9:30pm. These trainings will provide you with tools to tap into your creative potential and help you to better articulate your thoughts and ideas. You will gain an understanding of the ideas and concepts behind BNW and will learn the skills required to work with the children in our program.
If your time is limited, you can volunteer for a day and do some behind the scenes work to make the program happen!
Decorate our theatre on Saturdays, 11/30 or 12/7 from 11am-4pm.
Help set-up the theatre for the children’s parties on 12/10 or 12/11 from 1pm - 5:30pm.
Or join our food team and help prepare a home-cooked meal for the children.
Fill out this Decorating RSVP to let us know how you can help!
