Volunteer opportunity description

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Junior Achievement of New York! Our mission is to empower young people to own their economic success. Volunteers lead fun, hands-on activities in grades K – 12 that help bridge the classroom with real world experience, led by professionals from a variety of sectors. As role models, volunteers teach young people the importance of staying in school and achieving their goals in this global economy.

You are invited to volunteer to work with middle school students at Brooklyn Environmental Exploration School (BEES) through the JA Economics for Success program, which will introduce them to the basics of career exploration, managing their money wisely, and making thoughtful decisions about the future! You'll receive a JA kit, which includes an in-depth volunteer guide, colorful classroom supplies and interactive lessons. The teacher will also remain in the classroom to help manage the students. Additionally, a JA representative will be on-site as back-up throughout your volunteer experience.

The school is a roughly 40-minute trip from midtown Manhattan; accessible by the C at Rockaway Avenue, the L at Bushwick Ave.-Aberdeen St., or the J at Chauncey St.

A desire to motivate and inspire young people! Volunteers come from a variety of professions and are encouraged to use creativity to connect the key concepts with “real world” experiences.  No teaching or business background is required – all volunteers will be trained and provided with the necessary classroom materials. The classroom teacher will stay in the room to lend a helping hand.
