Volunteer opportunity description

In the beginning of May, while attending a full board meeting, with Community Board 7 Manhattan on Zoom, there as an appeal made to better help the residents of the Frederick Douglass Houses. Douglass is a NYCHA Development, with 18 buildings, and well over 4000 residents. Several of our board members and neighborhood volunteers are residents in this development, we immediately reached out to the Chair of the Task force, on Public Housing on the community board, Madelyn Innocent who also lives here in Douglass. We agreed that we should work together on behalf of our community. So, we have come together creating a team, reaching out to seniors who are home bound, individuals with disabilities and those with mobility impairments. Distributing mask, gloves, and hand sanitizers. We have also decided to set up some phone call connections, like a buddy system,

Requirements

As it stands, we have received mask gloves and some sanitizers from the Manhattan Borough President, Assembly member Daniel O'Donnell. and our Council member Mark Levine. We have also obtained clear bags to hang on doorknobs, in addition to mask for the Community Affairs Unit of Mayor's office. We need volunteers to make phone calls to seniors in Douglass, which we have a list of 1000 seniors. We will also need volunteers who could drop off the needed PPE supplies. To start we will be reaching out two to three times a week, distributing once or twice a month depending on the number of volunteers. We will be working out of the Children’s Aid Society at 885 Columbus Ave
