Volunteer opportunity description
WomensActivism.NYC is a crowd-sourced, digital archive spearheaded by the NYC Department of Records and Information Services (Municipal Archives) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in the United States.
Position Summary:
We are seeking Volunteer Ambassadors for the WomensActivism.NYC project to help collect and write stories about inspiring women, as well as motivate and train others in their network to do so. Candidate must have access to a computer/phone and internet. Volunteers will be trained to gather and write stories and help write women into history.
Volunteers will serve remotely. Training will be provided.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Write (or collect) five stories a week about inspiring women to contribute to the archive;
- Perform outreach to organizations, groups and individuals to engage them in the WomensActivism.NYC project by making phone calls, sending emails, etc.;
- Share social media content to promote the WomensActivism.NYC project (on platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and/or Instagram);
- Perform other duties to support the WomensActivism.NYC project, as assigned
Skills:
- Strong writing skills required;
- Strong research and organizational skills are helpful;
- Candidates must be internet proficient and familiar with software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite;
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
